VAT Associate -- Oxford or Farnham

We have several offices in Central and Southern England and have ambitious plans to expand our business. To support the organisation’s growth, we have created a new opportunity for a VAT Associate to join our VAT team in either Oxford or Farnham. This is a permanent full time role with hybrid working and flexible working options (flexing your hours on different days to suit your lifestyle).

The Role

Your key responsibilities will include:

·         Contributing to the efficient and successful delivery of indirect tax services to the client

·         Liaising with staff, assisting and advising where necessary

·         Providing technical relevant advice on a range of Indirect Tax matters, supporting your decisions with appropriate knowledge of legislation, case law, and technical analysis

·         Liaising and negotiating with HMRC on behalf of clients

·         Planning and managing assignments ensuring these are completed to a high standard and within budget

·         Providing clients confidence with their VAT systems by conducting in-depth reviews of their business tax systems to establish if their VAT is being dealt with thoroughly and accurately

·         Providing support to the wider business with demand led VAT queries

·         Assisting in promoting the VAT advisory service both internally and externally

  • Dealing with HMRC correspondence, telephone calls and enquiries
  • General support to the VAT team as required

What we can offer you

About You

A minimum of 2 years UK practice experience, preferably within a VAT team. The following attributes would be preferred:

  • Experience of providing VAT advisory services within practice or industry
  • Demonstrate good judgement of risk & be commercially minded
  • Strong analytical skills
  • ACCA qualified or part qualified with the desire to become CTA qualified
  • Experience & willingness to network
  • Experience of communicating with HMRC
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Organised and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong aptitude for IT - able to pick up new technology quickly
  • Can do attitude, positive
  • Confident, tactful and discreet manner
  • Strong team spirit but also effective working independently
