Bookkeeper - Oxford office

If so, we could have the perfect role for you. We are Shaw Gibbs, a leading independent accountancy, financial services and insolvency practice with offices in Oxford and London’s West End. At Shaw Gibbs we have a strong focus on using technology to give our clients insight and information to help them make decisions on how to grow their business. We are currently recruiting for an experienced Bookkeeper to join our Business Services team in our Oxford office.

The Role

This role will entail accounting, compliance and reporting support. Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Build relationships and liaise confidently with clients and internally within Shaw Gibbs
  • Prepare monthly & quarterly management accounts
  • Prepare bank reconciliations
  • Extract information from clients books and records to enable simple Income and Expenditure Account to be prepared
  • Prepare manual control accounts e.g. Bank, Cash, Sales ledger, Purchase ledger
  • Prepare & submit VAT and related returns
  • PAYE/NIC/Wages
  • Extract summaries from client’s books and sub-analyse where necessary
  • Calculate accruals, prepayments and depreciation
  • Post from working papers to a nominal ledger and extraction (usually via computer) of a trial balance
  • Prepare working papers/control accounts from incomplete accounting records
  • Prepare simple corporation tax and capital allowance computations
  • Maintain client confidentiality and follow data protection procedures at all times
  • Understand and follow workplace policies and procedures

About You

We would like to hear from you if you are a quick learner and can tick all of the below:

  • Strong UK practice experience – minimum 3 years
  • Solid understanding of all aspects of bookkeeping
  • AAT qualified or QBE in practice
  • Experience in using Xero would be an advantage
  • Proven communication skills, verbal and written
  • Fully fluent in English, verbal and written
  • Strong IT skills specifically Excel and able to pick up new IT packages very quickly. Previous working knowledge of CCH would be an extra bonus
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Create a positive impression with clients and staff
  • Enthusiasm to face new challenges and learn new skills
  • Ability to prioritise and meet tight timeframes with high quality output
  • Enjoy working as part of a team but very self-motivated and highly organised
