HR Adviser (part time – 25-30 hours/week)

Our clients range from successful individuals to owner managers or entrepreneurs of growing businesses across London, Oxfordshire and the Thames Valley region, with some of our more specialist divisions operating nationally. We are recruiting for a part time HR Adviser to help make Shaw Gibbs an employer of choice. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your technical HR knowledge as your role will involve providing advice and guidance to Shaw Gibbs as well as helping the HR Manager with our external HR clients.

Reporting to the HR Manager, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing HR advice to staff and managers in relation to all aspects of the employee lifecycle, ensuring all work is carried out to a high standard and with the utmost confidentiality
  • Being the first point of contact for managers and employees on HR and training related queries
  • Carrying out generalist HR activities such as benefits renewal, monthly HR & payroll reporting, policy development and inductions
  • Managing the recruitment process from start to finish on entry level vacancies e.g. scoping vacancy, liaising with agencies, placing ads, interviewing etc
  • Manage our training and development activities including identifying requirements, investigating providers, booking training requests, monitoring and measuring expenditure
  • Assisting the HR Manager with casework such as disciplinary, grievance, absence management and performance improvement
  • Being involved in a wide range of HR projects including reward, recognition and employee engagement
  • Providing advice and assistance to our external HR clients as and when required

This is a part time role to be based in our Oxford office with very occasional travel to our London office. 

What we are looking for

  • At least 2-3 years’ experience in a similar generalist HR Adviser role in the private sector. Must include extensive recruitment experience.
  • Up-to-date employment law knowledge
  • CIPD qualified or desire to work towards it
  • Degree qualification and English and Maths at GCSE level or above
  • Strong team player with a positive, can-do attitude
  • Highly professional at all times with a tactful, discreet and confident manner
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Commercial outlook and high standard of customer care
  • Excellent organisational skills, ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail and focus on getting things right first time
  • Strong numeracy & analytical skills
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft office applications
