Tax Trainee - Farnham

We have several offices in Central and Southern England and have ambitious plans to expand our business. To support the organisation’s growth, we have created a new opportunity for an Tax Trainee to join our Farnham compliance team. This position also includes a comprehensive induction and full funding to pursue professional qualifications. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to start a career in tax.
The Role
You will support the tax team whilst developing a sound knowledge of personal and business taxation and work management skills. You will be provided with plenty of on the job training along with a study package to take the ATT qualification if you are interested in a long-term career in personal tax. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Building productive working relationships within Shaw Gibbs and with clients as required
- Developing and applying your technical knowledge through on the job training and formal qualifications
- Maintaining client confidentiality and data security at all times
- Assisting in the preparation of basic personal tax computations and returns using software and liaising with clients to obtain all the necessary information
- Assisting with various tax compliance projects
- Drafting income and expenditure accounts and rental accounts for review
- Liaising with HM Revenue & Customs on personal tax matters on behalf of clients
- Drafting client letters and emails
- Keeping clients up to date with progress on their tax compliance, advising them of deadlines and payment amounts
- Supporting the team with admin tasks

What you will need to succeed
We would like to hear from you if you are a quick learner and can tick all of the below:
- Educated to A-Level (or equivalent) or higher e.g. degree
- If you are a school leaver – you must have a minimum of 3 A Levels at grades B, B, C
- You must have GCSEs in Maths and English at grade 5 or above
- Fluent in English (verbal and written) with strong communication skills
- Strong IT skills, specifically Excel and able to pick up new IT packages very quickly
- Exceptional attention to detail
- A positive, confident and proactive attitude
- Able to prioritise and meet tight timeframes with high quality output
- Enjoy working as part of a team and self-motivated
- Willingness to undertake and succeed in a range of professional studies
- Relevant work experience would be great but not essential
