Trainee Accountant - London office

If so, we could have the perfect role for you. We are Shaw Gibbs, a leading independent accountancy, financial services and insolvency practice with offices in Oxford and London’s West End. At Shaw Gibbs we have a strong focus on using technology to give our clients insight and information to help them make decisions on how to grow their business. We are currently recruiting for a Trainee Accountant to join our Business Services team in our new London Marylebone office.

The Role

This is a Trainee position and full training and support will be given to develop your skills and abilities for a long-term career within our practice. 

We will consider applications from graduates and from those individuals who have completed their A Levels. Successful A-Level applicants may study AAT or ACCA and successful graduate applicants will study ACCA.

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Building productive working relationships within Shaw Gibbs and with clients as required
  • Developing and applying your technical knowledge through on the job training and formal qualifications
  • Using accounting software to provide accurate reporting for Managers, Directors and clients
  • Preparing monthly and quarterly management accounts for sole traders, limited companies and partnerships
  • Maintaining client confidentiality and ensure data security at all times
  • Producing profit and loss accounts and balance sheets
  • Preparing basic tax computations and returns e.g. corporation tax, VAT
  • Preparing bank reconciliations and manual control accounts
  • Preparing statutory accounts and finalise accounts under the overall supervision of your Line Manager

About You

We would like to hear from you if you are a quick learner and can tick all of the below:

  • Educated to A Level or higher e.g. degree
  • Proven communication skills, verbal and written
  • Fully fluent in English, verbal and written
  • Strong IT skills, specifically Excel and able to pick up new IT packages very quickly
  • Create a positive impression with clients and staff
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritise and meet tight timeframes with high quality output
  • Enjoy working as part of a team and self-motivated
  • A positive, confident and proactive attitude
  • Able to work within procedures on job aspects which will deal with facts, standards and quality
  • Relevant finance related work experience and/or experience of working within a practice environment would be great but not essential
