Trainee Accountant – Oxford

If so, we could have the perfect role for you. We are Shaw Gibbs, a leading independent accountancy, financial services and insolvency practice with offices in Oxford and London’s West End. At Shaw Gibbs we have a strong focus on using technology to give our clients insight and information to help them make decisions on how to grow their business. We are currently recruiting for a Trainee Accounts & Audit Accountant to join our Business Services team in our Oxford office. 

This position comes with a fully funded training package towards a professional accounting qualification including time off for study and exams. This opportunity will involve developing your technical skills and commercial acumen for a rewarding long term career within our practice.

The Role

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Building productive working relationships within Shaw Gibbs and with clients as required
  • Developing and applying your technical knowledge through on the job training and formal qualifications
  • Using accounting software to provide accurate reporting for Managers, Directors and clients
  • Maintaining client confidentiality and ensure data security at all times
  • Producing profit and loss accounts and balance sheets
  • Preparing monthly and quarterly management accounts for sole traders, limited companies and partnerships
  • Preparing statutory accounts and finalise accounts under the overall supervision of your Line Manager
  • Preparing basic tax computations and returns e.g. corporation tax, VAT
  • Calculate accruals, prepayments and depreciation
  • Extract information from clients’ books and records to enable simple Income and Expenditure Account to be prepared

About You

We would like to hear from you if you are a quick learner and can tick all of the below: Either a graduate with a 2.1 or higher or, a school leaver with 3 A-Levels (must be A-C grades) or equivalent and 8 GCSEs including English & Maths (must be A-B grades) or equivalent.

  • Relevant finance related work experience and/or experience of working within a practice environment would be great but not essential
  • Eligible to live and work in the UK
  • Fully fluent in English (verbal and written) and strong communication skills
  • Strong IT skills, specifically Excel and able to pick up new IT packages very quickly
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • A positive, confident and proactive attitude
  • Create a positive impression with clients and staff
  • Able to balance working and studying towards a professional qualification
  • Well organised and able to meet tight deadlines
  • Enjoy working as part of a team and self-motivated
