Trainee Insolvency Administrator - Oxford

All businesses – large or small – experience difficulties at various stages throughout their business cycle. Such difficulties can be the result of external or internal pressures, likely triggered by today’s difficult economic climate. Examples of these pressures include debt and cashflow problems. Our Insolvency and Advisory team help guide businesses and individuals through periods of financial difficulty and deals with both formal and informal insolvency solutions. We work with businesses and individuals of all types and sizes, from small sole traders and owner managed business to national charities.

As we continue to grow, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Trainee in our Insolvency Division. This Trainee position is an excellent opportunity for a graduate/school leaver with good analytical, problem solving and IT skills. It would also be a great fit for someone who has related work experience and/or may have already started a professional accountancy qualification. 

This role is full time and will be based in our Oxford Summertown office.

The Role

The purpose of this role is to support the Insolvency Directors and Case Administrators whilst developing a sound knowledge of insolvency and business management skills. You will be provided with plenty of on the job training along with a study package to gain insolvency and/or accountancy qualifications. 

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Building productive working relationships within Shaw Gibbs and with clients as required
  • Developing and applying your technical knowledge through on the job training and formal qualifications
  • Supporting the senior members of the team with general case related tasks e.g. drafting letters and standard documentation, assisting with monthly case reviews, dealing with telephone calls from creditors, clients and other parties, data entry on specialist insolvency software, preparing annual reports to creditors and assisting with despatch out in post/uploading to online portal.
  • Liaising with clients/directors/creditors/employees/agents
  • Attending meetings and taking notes and preparing paperwork
  • Assisting with setting up new clients on our software
  • Keeping clients/other parties up to date with progress, advising them of deadlines
  • Supporting the team with admin tasks

About You

We would like to hear from you if you are a quick learner and can tick all of the below:

  • Educated to A Level or above e.g. degree
  • At least 3 good A-Level results (or equivalent) and GCSE (or equivalent) English and Maths at grade B or higher
  • Work experience e.g. in an accountancy practice would be an advantage
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including a high standard of letter writing
  • Good with people and able to confidently deal with all people in what can sometimes be difficult situations
  • Friendly and outgoing personality with a confident, professional approach
  • Must have a can-do attitude, be enthusiastic and willing to learn
  • Strong IT skills, specifically Excel and able to pick up new IT packages very quickly
  • Able to produce high quality, detailed and accurate work, often under tight timeframes
  • Self-sufficient, with the ability to plan and manage own caseload
  • Create a positive impression with clients and staff
  • Enjoy working as part of a team
  • Able to work within procedures on job aspects which will deal with facts, standards and quality
  • Relevant work experience would be useful but not essential
