The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) changed on the 1st July. You can now bring back to work employees who have previously been furloughed, for any amount of time and any shift pattern, while still being able to claim a CJRS grant for their normal hours not worked (“flexible furlough”). The only exception is the employee must have been furloughed on or before 10th June 2020 and have been furloughed for a minimum of 21 days.
Whilst from an admin and payroll perspective, this presents extra work, flexible furlough gives a lifeline to businesses who might be able to recover faster if they can have some staff on part time furlough. If business picks up, you may want to have some staff working for part of the week and the rest of the week on furlough leave.
It will continue to be possible to fully furlough employees or to rotate employees on and off furlough.
