Shaw Gibbs Insolvency Practitioner Karyn Jones braves the Langdon Velo Challenge alongside her father and daughter

The three generations will take part in the 220 mile ride which, over the years, has taken place in Spain, France, Italy, Prague, Belgium and Luxembourg. The ride is in support of Langdon, a charity who’s aim is to enable Jewish people with learning disabilities to lead independent and fulfilling lives.

This year is the 10th anniversary of the Langdon Velo, cyclists are heading to the Catalonian region of northern Spain to explore the roads surrounding the city of Girona. Those taking part will be in the saddle for four days for what promises to be a gruelling yet breathtakingly experience. Girona, founded by the Romans is today the region's cycling capital and offers easy access to the best of the routes, many of which are frequently ridden by the resident pro riders. Challenging options include the Massís de les Gavarres and the infamous Rocacorba whereas the climb to the pretty chapel of Els Angels and rolling pineclad sierras of the Costa Brava offer some gentler alternatives.

Karyn comments ‘Previous to our training, Charli had not ridden a bike since she was a child and I have been out of practice, having torn my cruciate ligament in December 2017. We really appreciate all of the amazing support we have had to date and this will no-doubt inspire us to struggle up the mountains. We are all honoured to have raised such desperately needed funds for this incredible charity on its 10th Annual Bike Ride”

Karyn’s father Geoffrey has completed every one of the 10 Langdon rides, Karyn has taken part in three and Charli is joining them for the first time for what has now become a family tradition.

About Langdon

Langdon College began with six students, and since then numbers have grown to over 25. It was named after Margaret Langdon, a prominent Manchester Jewish philanthropist and activist in community care, who set up Delamere Forest School in 1921.

In 2005, Langdon established supported living communities for people leaving the College. Today, the Langdon community is now made up of over 100 people, living in supported accommodation in over 50 properties in Manchester, Edgware and Borehamwood. A dedicated employment service was set up in 2004, and Maccabi House, a community building for Langdon and its members, was opened in Edgware in 2012.
