Three generations of Karyn’s family recently took part in the 220 mile Langdon Velo ride in support of Langdon. The ride which took the family up eight mountains in temperatures soaring over 30 degrees took four days to complete. The family managed to raise over £4,500 and reached the top 1% of charity fund raisers using the JustGiving site during June.

Karyn’s daughter Charli comments:

“Most people think we are mad taking on something like this by choice and wanting to do so year after year but we do it for one vital reason - for the people we help. This bike ride helped raise over £100,000 towards Langdon’s £1,300,000 target this year in order to give their members with learning disabilities the lives that they deserve. We helped to provide these people with jobs, homes and most importantly friends for life. I’m proud to say that my grandpa was involved with Langdon when it started 20 years ago and to this day is still entirely involved, being the only person to ever have completed all 10 of their annual bike rides.

With the most ever Langdon residents on a ride and being Langdon’s first ever three generations to take part, I can honestly say it was an experience of a lifetime. I can’t thank everyone enough who supported me on my first ride and in doing so supported those in need! About Langdon

Langdon College began with six students, and since then numbers have grown to over 25. It was named after Margaret Langdon, a prominent Manchester Jewish philanthropist and activist in community care, who set up Delamere Forest School in 1921.

In 2005, Langdon established supported living communities for people leaving the College. Today, the Langdon community is now made up of over 100 people, living in supported accommodation in over 50 properties in Manchester, Edgware and Borehamwood. A dedicated employment service was set up in 2004, and Maccabi House, a community building for Langdon and its members, was opened in Edgware in 2012.
