Lead Advisory Services for the owners of private businesses focusing on private company Mergers & Acquisitions, Disposals, Management Buy-Ins/Outs, Raising Debt and Equity Finance and equity related Business Restructures.


With more than 15 years of corporate finance experience drawn from lead advisory work as well as from blue chip corporate environments, Clifford’s work includes disposals, acquisitions, raising equity finance for growth companies, structuring MBO/MBI transactions and raising finance from £1m to £60m in value. Recent transactions include the sale of Clarice House Group (a chain of high end health clubs and spa’s) to Bannatynes Fitness Limited, the sale of Octavian Securities Limited (a security and manned guarding business) to CE Facilities Services Limited and the investment and management buy-out of Cursor Controls by Maven Capital Partners.

Prior to Shaw Gibbs, Clifford was a Director at a boutique corporate finance house that focussed solely on advising the owners of private businesses on equity related transactions. Whilst there, Clifford led and worked on transactions and built strong relationships with the principles in a variety of sectors including UK manufacturing, marketing services, recruitment & human capital and business process outsourcing. Prior roles include Financial Controller and Head of Financial Planning & Analysis at Harley-Davidson Europe and various senior roles in finance at Thomson Reuters. A significant transaction that Clifford worked on at Reuters was the joint venture between Reuters Group PLC and Dow Jones that resulted in the formation of Factiva, a leading provider of business critical information.

Clifford enjoys working with and learning about new businesses and the unique business models that they employ to build success. Working with owner managers and helping them to achieve their long-term strategic aspirations inspires Clifford on every project that he is engaged with.

Clifford is a Chartered Management Accountant (CIMA) and he holds an MBA from SAID Business School, Oxford University where was awarded a Distinction and the Dean’s Prize for outstanding academic achievement. Clifford enjoys working with his local community and is the current Chairman of Thame Hockey Club. He is also an enthusiastic sportsman and plays hockey regularly and enjoys swimming, especially open water swimming in the warmer months.
