We have been flooded with emails from very appreciative clients praising the efforts of each of the Shaw Gibbs Payroll team for their assistance in making furlough claims through the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme.

The scheme, which has been implemented to assist UK businesses with cashflow and avoid employee redundancies launched on the 20 April. Since then, the Shaw Gibbs payroll team have submitted furlough claims on behalf of payroll clients via HMRC’s portal and has helped those clients to make a a large amount of successful of the Government grant

Sarah Gardener, Partner and Head of the Outsourcing Division for Shaw Gibbs comments

“It is important in this challenging period that we take time to recognise our people and the difference they make to our clients.  Therefore, we’d like to say a huge thank you to Katie Preston and the payroll team  for working above and beyond at weekends and into the evening to ensure that our clients’ furlough grants are successfully submitted. Also thanks should be extended to Kerry Whitfield, HR Manager who has been providing HR support to clients in the shape of Furlough Leave templates and scripts in order for clients to be compliant within employment law.”

Katie Preston who manages the Payroll team for Shaw Gibbs said

‘I could not be prouder of how much we have accomplished and especially how well the team has adapted to remote working’.

About the scheme

The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme which was announced by the UK Government on the 26 March is designed to support employers whose operations have been severely affected by coronavirus (COVID-19) by placing employees on temporary ‘Furlough Leave’. Employers who have opted to use this scheme were asked to make a claim using a portal for 80% of furloughed employees’ usual monthly wage costs (up to £2,500 a month), plus the associated Employer National Insurance contributions and minimum automatic enrolement employer pension contributions on that wage. Since the initial Government announcement, there have (perhaps unsurprisingly) been a number of changes to the guidance which those making claims for their business or on behalf of a business have had to keep abreast of, the final guidance was released the day before the portal went live.
